Wow! What a week! Spotlight! Hat Trick! Homecoming Queen!

How big can a senior year be for any one person? How big can one week be any one person? Remember that post a little while back about the first week of senior year? Imagine the first week of High School as a Senior

Well, let’s walk through this week to see what we can cover:

Well on Tuesday we discovered she got the Senior Spotlight:

Sourced from Cedarcrest High School Girl’s Soccer (facebook.com)

She happened to also have a game that day where the spirit theme selected happened to be Idaho Vandals (Black and Gold) she scored a hat trick which was then covered by our local SnoValley Sports Journal with the following:

Girls’ soccer: CHS celebrates special moment for senior leader, who then delivers the goods in a win, while Mount Si’s playoff hopes take a detour with lossLet’s take a look at some girls’ soccer, shall we? Cedarcrest High School’s girls’ soccer ladies last night celebrated a top senior’s college commitment by holding a theme night in her honor, then the player herself provided all the goods as the Red Wolves handled another conference foe with ease. Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson … Continue reading

Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson pocketed a “hat trick” – three goals – as Cedarcrest took care of visiting Marysville-Pilchuck 4-1 on “University of Idaho Vandals” night, in recognition of Davidson’s verbal commitment to play soccer for that NCAA Division I school, something which we are working to get some more information on for you now. Idaho is no stranger to Valley fans, as Mount Si HS alum Claire Johnson was a four-year starter on defense for the Vandals several years ago following her graduation from the Wildcat high school program.

Davidson didn’t wait long to get on the scoresheet – she only needed four minutes to get things rolling, taking a feed from teammate Melanie Cammarano and finishing it off to open the scoring. CHS then scored again in the 20th minute, with Leah Cammarano firing a corner kick which was received by Elisa Piira, who then promptly did the rest, cleaning up the ball in front of the net and pounding it home to make it 2-0. According to coach Alex Hickox, the instructions to his team were simple. “(W)e explained that we really needed to get the third goal and put this game to bed,” the coach told us by email. Well, Davidson was more than happy to oblige. Nine minutes into the second half, she got a throw-in from teammate Anna Linder, and the “Mad Dog” did the rest.

Hickox was impressed. “It was about as fine as a goal you will get from the senior,” he told us. “It’s (Davidson’s) awareness that separates her from the rest of the crowd. She checked her shoulder and knew exactly what she needed to do to free up some space for herself and since the defense didn’t step to her, she was able to check where the keeper was and chip her far post.” You know, if Idaho sees this clip, expect their coaches to be dropping out of their chairs fired up. That’s how big of an impact she potentially could be for that Vandal program.Davidson finished off the “trick” in the 74th minute, helping to clean up the ball in front of the net after Lila Wilkins had fired a shot that had been stopped by the M-P goalie. Wilkins’ shot was rebounded by Leah Cammarano, who then got the ball back into goal-scoring territory, where she found a waiting Davidson, who put the icing on the cake on her special night.

Wow, a great Tuesday night game in the books with a lot of excitement and fireworks. It was even streamed by the National Federation of High Schools:

But wait the week doesn’t end there as she still had one more away game on Thursday along with finding out that she was in the top 6 finalists for Homecoming Queen.

Rhett Workman shares the game updates so well, I will share his update here:

Soccer: Mount Si, Cedarcrest girls get big road wins – and Wildcats’ earns them a trip to playoffs for the first time in six seasons

Cedarcrest’s Melanie Cammarano scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 80th minute and the Red Wolves escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Bearcats at Monroe High School that pushed CHS into third place overall in the Wesco standings and was also their 10th win of the season. I’m really proud of our accomplishment and against a good team and on the road. “We just keep finding ways to win and support each other and it’s just so fun to be a part of this team,” Cedarcrest coach Alex Hickox tells us by email. Madelyn Davidson also scored a goal for the Red Wolves in this one.Monroe opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 15th minute and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Davidson tied it in the 55th off a feed from Sadie Schaefer, then Cammarano got the feed from Schaefer with moments to spare and was able to open up enough of a lane to fire the ball towards goal and it sailed past a backup Monroe goalie (the starting goalie had to leave midway through the second half after getting injured in a collision with Schaefer) to give the Red Wolves the lead. Stoppage time ensued and CHS held on. “This was a really fun game if you like high-intensity and high-tension. I think the fans were treated with a really great back and forth battle all night,” Hickox told us.

A great week of soccer for the RedWolves and a lot of fun had by Madelyn.

Friday was an interesting day as it didn’t involve her playing sports but it did require attending the Homecoming Varsity football game. After school, there was an assembly to announce the top 3 for each of the Homecoming royal court positions. The school streamed it over Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CVD8AKvlH5k where Madelyn was walked down the track and introduced with her soccer coach Alex.

So that is the week in review, homecoming is taking place tonight. Thanks for dropping by and catching up…

The wins continue… Another fun week of soccer for CHS…

Another week with two hard-fought victories by the Cedarcrest High School girls varsity soccer team. One on the road and one at home but two games that required the girls to keep fighting for the win. You can always catch the latest sports news update through the SnoValley Sports Journal (which changed hosting providers and URL recently) with great news and updates. Another source of information is MaxPrep.

In the away game, Madelyn was able to help the team with 1 goal and 1 assist.

This week included two High School Varsity games. Both had some great play and excitement. Thanks to Rhett Workman who publishes great game updates, I am able to capture some of that insight and information for archiving purposes here. His coverage of the SnoValley Sports has been incredible over the years (Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal – Bringing you the best coverage of Snoqualmie Valley sports (wordpress.com)).

So the team had their first game on Tuesday at Home and won the game 2-0 with two assists.

From soccer on a Wednesday…..

The week kept going for with a road game at the Edmonds Stadium against the Meadowvale Mavericks. The score was much closer with a 4-3 win but the game started off with some great excitement after Meadowvale’s first goal that was countered with two header goals scored by Madelyn off of corner kicks from two of her teammates (Elisa and Leah) who happened to set her up perfectly! She finished the games with 2 goals and an assist, per game announcer.

It was a fun week of getting to watch her play soccer with excitement continuing to build for what is yet to come! Hope you enjoy the updates.

Valley Cup Weekend 9-25-2021…

Every year (except the one we missed because of COVID in 2020), Cedarcrest Red Wolves take on the Mt. Si Wildcats. Madelyn has been blessed to get to be a part of the team those 3 years of her high school soccer career. Yesterday her team was able to keep the cup by winning 4-3 in a very tight and fast-paced game. Check out the pre-game (It’s Soccer Night in the Valley, ladies style. The Valley Cup is on the line, but really, tonight is more about than just bragging rights. Our thoughts…… (snovalleysportsjournal.com)) and post-game (The Valley Cup in girls’ soccer stays put in the lower Valley after an exciting win for Red Wolves, along with all of the college soccer action from last night…. (snovalleysportsjournal.com)) posts in the SnoValley Sports Journal for more details…

A couple snapshots from the articles:

Pre-Game:

But guess what? These are all fundamental elements of what Cedarcrest’s program is under their veteran head coach, Alex Hickox. CHS is 3-2-1 on the season after a 3-2 loss to Snohomish Thursday. Hickox hasn’t as of yet posted a game report from that contest but suffice it to say this is a group that is definitely out to a good start. Senior Madelyn Davidson leads CHS and had three assists in their 5-3 win Tuesday over Marysville-Getchell that opened the week. Davidson, like Simmons and Forrest with the Wildcats, is a multi-sport athlete, also likely to be part of the girls’ basketball and track and field teams with CHS before this year is out.

Post-Game:

Led by a pair of goals from Madelyn Davidson, including the game-winner, Cedarcrest outlasted Mount Si 4-3 in a well-played match by both sides. “Wow, just like our match vs. Marysville-Getchell on Tuesday night, this one would come down to who had the ball last and would the score get into the double digits or not,” Cedarcrest coach Alex Hickox told us by email.
Things started out fairly early in this one as CHS took a quick 2-0 lead. Elisa Piira pounded it home in the 11th minute to open the scoring, off a rebound of a shot from freshman defender Lila Wilkins and she was followed up a few minutes after by Davidson’s first tally of the night. According to Hickox, his team prepared well for what Mount Si would bring to the table. “I thought we did a great job of unbalancing Mount Si with moving the ball from sideline to sideline. This (Davidson) goal was typical of one of our strategies on the night. The sequence leading up to this goal was exactly what we talked about during our pregame talk,” he told us. “I thought we also kept Amy Jenkins under control. We knew that their offense went through Jenkins. We control her, we control their offense. Jenkins has such a deft touch, great soccer IQ, can use both feet and is great off the dribble,” Hickox added.
Cedarcrest senior goalie Natalie McCabe made sure her team went into the lead at halftime, too, as she made a spectacular highlight-reel save of a shot by Mount Si’s Paris Price just before the halftime whistle sounded, and that set the tone for the second half. After McCabe made another quality save, CHS almost found paydirt with a shot, but it sailed wide. Then, in the 48th, Bubba Huard fired a shot but Red Wolve sophomore defender Molly Teakell blocked it in the penalty area. Unfortunately for Teakell, the ball hit her in the arm resulting in referees calling it a “handball in the box” allowing for Mount Si to attempt a penalty kick. It was a tough break for Teakell, a break made even tougher when Jenkins made no mistake on the resulting PK attempt to tie proceedings at 3-3. But Davidson answered in the 61st minute taking a feed from Melanie Cammarano and blasting the ball past Henretig to put CHS back in front.

Very exciting game with lots of energy and excitement.

Imagine the first week of High School as a Senior

The school week starts on Wednesday, the 1st day of Sept but to our surprise, we got news of selection to ECNL NW Conference 1st Team.

Then we learned that Madelyn was chosen by her team as Captain to the Varsity Soccer team.

Cedarcrest High School Girl’s Soccer | Facebook

To close out the week after a great call with the coach for the University of Idaho Vandals, Madelyn gave a verbal commitment to joining their crew next year. Now we start the process of applying to the school, then housing, official signing/media day, and then early trips over for summer training and more.

Wow, what an amazing first week of Madelyn’s Senior High School year! Go Red Wolves Go! Go Vandals Go!

What a busy 1st week of school…

As earlier captured, the day before school started on Sept 1st, we reported on making Northwest Conference 1team from ECNL GIRLS ANNOUNCES 2020-21 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS. Then school kicked off for the senior year of High School. Then a new set of posts went out from the school, the club, and even the local sports news journal.

And finally I found this one:

SVSJ preview: CHS girls’ soccer graduated a ton of seniors following COVID season, but could be just as dangerous this fall with a younger group…..

There are eight girls back this fall, led by a pair of seniors: Natalie McCabe and Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson. Davidson comes in as a three-time postseason league award recipient, both on and off the field, and this week was named as one of the top players at the club level in the country, as a ECNL All-Conference 1st team player (she plays club soccer for Preston-based Eastside FC). “Mad Dog is an athletic and dangerous player and lethal around the opposition goal. She has a very strong soccer IQ and leads by example. She is reliable, consistent and will out-work any player on the field – huge motor,” Hickox tells us by email. “You will be following this player as she transitions to college soccer,” he adds, and we would look for that to be at the Division I NCAA level.

Junior Year of Soccer in High School

Fall got postponed to spring and season was abbreviated and all games were streamed with only 1 home game that had in-person spectators. That being said the girls got to play their seasons and finish strong. Last weekend they had their end-of-season party. This shortened season was celebrated with a few big awards:

  • Madelyn was voted by her team as offensive MVP
  • Madelyn was voted onto the All-WESCO second team
  • Her team a 3-peat Winner of the 2A WIAA Girls Soccer State Academic Award (’18, ’19, ‘20/’21)!
