It’s Official! Letter of Intent to play soccer! @SEU!

Last night as I was sitting in the living room I learned that she received a letter of intent from SEU. It was very exciting and so I grabbed some pictures (not included) as well as a couple I am able to share. God took what was broken and made it whole again! God took what the devil had planned for evil and turned it for good! What the devil tried to rob, kill, and destroy, God chose to use to redeem!

To think the idea of applying to go to SEU came to her while she was away for spring break. To think that after applying to go there for school she had the idea to go back and see why she never heard anything from the soccer team and realized there had been a typo in the original email. To think that the coach would respond and they would connect on the subject. To think that it would come down to an act of faith on both sides as the coach hasn’t seen her in person and she hasn’t visited the school campus. But God made it clear in both their hearts and minds. God had a plan that was better than our plans. God had a way even when there didn’t seem to be a way. God has opened an incredible door having closed many others that starting this fall an incredible new journey will begin!

Happy Today and Congratulations Madelyn! We are so proud of you!

Madelyn will be attending SEU fall 2022

It’s with great excitement that I post that Madelyn has decided to attend SEU. God has led and guided her decision closing the doors she wasn’t supposed to go thru and opening the door that He planned for her to walk through. It’s a step of faith for both the coaching staff and Madelyn, which is right where God wants them to be.

Basketball – End of Season Reel put together by the coach.

Thanks Coach Brad for putting this together and for all you poured into the teams.

During the end of season banquet this is what the coach had to say:

“Madelyn is an outstanding, natural athlete and could excel in any sport she undertakes.  She is strong, fast, smart, and extremely coachable.  Some of the things she did on the court this season just made me shake my head in disbelief.  From her acrobatic jumping where she floated in the air, to amazing passes for assists, dribbling through her legs, and making crucial 3-point shots when we needed them, she simply had a great season.  And if she ever collided with an opponent, it was always the opponent that got up slow…..Madelyn would just bounce up.  One time she bounced too many times and the referee called a technical foul on her bouncing for “gesturing”.  Horrible call!   Mad Dog just loves to compete, and she did that extremely well this season.   She also taught me how to do the “griddy” dance. Great season and good luck at Idaho, Mad Dog!”

Busy week with 3 games for CHS Basketball ladies

Away & At Home? – Season Openers came with the W!

The season started on the road this year with a victory for the RedWolves. It was captured as follows in the SnoValleySportsJournal.

news on a Saturday…..Good Saturday morning. We hit the hardwood this morning for some high school girls’ basketball. The biggest question any high school basketball team has, frankly any high school sports team has, coming into the season when they have had a coaching change in the prior offseason is how the team will adjust to the new coaches. Well, that has been the big question this fall for Mount Si High School’s girls’ basketball team, as they have begun to adjust to their new coach, Robert Lowden, and his style of play. If the early results are any indication, it appears that things are going very smoothly for the ladies.Mount Si got strong efforts from their two top scorers, and also some solid defense down the stretch, as they held off Eisenhower from Yakima 67-51 at home in Snoqualmie to move to 2-0 in the Lowden era.“That was a good win,” Lowden said. He praised the Cadets. “That was a very good team, very aggressive, good shooters. They use their bodies well. I think they caught us off guard at the beginning of the game, we weren’t really ready for that physicality because we didn’t have that against Monroe, but I thought the girls responded well,” the coach said. The game was tight throughout the first half as Eisenhower built an early lead behind solid efforts of a foursome led by senior – and Yakima Valley College – bound Mia Rodriguez. She had 10 points, all in the first half, pacing the Cadets, who were led in the game by Navaeh Lopez’s 15 points and Kiana Yesiki’s 12. The two teams went to halftime tied at 32-32, then Mount Si went to work in the third quarter, turning up the defensive pressure, but Lowden also offered praise to a couple of his younger players. “We had two sophomores come off the bench and (they) really contributed,” Lowden said, speaking of Julia Stanley and Hannah Moscrip. Fans are going to be perhaps hearing these names a lot as the season goes on. Stanley had a pair of big threes in that third quarter, while Moscrip also chipped in some points down the stretch in the contest, and both also played solid on defense. It is this depth and getting everyone involved which Glazier, bound for WSU next fall after she signed her scholarship letter of intent with their women’s basketball program earlier this month, is very thrilled to see. “The difference between this year and last year is we work very well together,” Glazier said. “We give everyone a chance to shoot the ball (and)to make a play. Everyone gets the equal opportunity which is nice.”Turley was also pleased with the efforts. “The team played really well. We played a tough, physical team, but we battled from start to finish,” she said. Turley is one of several players in the program – Glazier and Indi Edwards among the others – who have spent the bulk of the past 21 months thanks to COVID-19 disruptions getting much of their basketball action at the Amateur Athletic Union select level, and Turley thinks that added experience will help her this season at the high school level. “It’s just more practice and just more game reps and the more game reps, the better,” she said.Mount Si outscored the Cadets 16-7 in the third, but after Glazier got into foul trouble early in the fourth, Eisenhower made a comeback attempt, forcing the Wildcats to perhaps bring her back into the game a little earlier they would have liked. The move proved to be the right one as Mount Si pulled away late, and a three by the Wildcat senior with about two minutes left pretty much sealed this one up.The transition for the new coaching staff with the players has also gone smoothly. “It’s been fine. The girls have really embraced it. They like the freedom, they like to get the ball and go, they like to run. They are very athletic,” Lowden said. However, there was one caveat. “With freedom comes responsibility and that’s what we are working on,” the coach added, noting that he is working with the players on being more disciplined with the ball and in their play.Coachability and trust in the players with their new coach won’t be a problem as he is someone very familiar to most of them. Lowden has coached for the past several years within the Mount Si feeder youth program, primarily on the boys’ side, where he has coached current Wildcat boys’ varsity players Trevor Hennig and Blake Forrest. “I’ve been in the Valley. I know the families, I know the girls,” Lowden said. “I’ve watched (Mount Si boys) Coach (Jason) Griffith and what he’s done with the boys and I think that kind of style translates.” So look for that trust and confidence to build as the successes keep going up with this group.Next week, Mount Si opens Kingco 4A play with a game against the Redmond Mustangs next Wednesday night. The game will tip at 7:15 p.m.Cedarcrest opens season on solid note: Kat Townley popped in 17 points for Cedarcrest High School’s ladies as they made their annual trek to Mount Vernon High School and left with a 55-32 win over the Northwest Conference team. Holly Williams added 15 and Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson dropped in 14 pacing the Red Wolves. “It’s always nice to win the first game of the season,” CHS coach Brad Knowles tells us by email. “We had a great start, scoring 20 points in the first quarter, but slowed a little in the second frame. We had a seven point lead at halftime, but we switched defenses to start the second half and held MV to one point in the third quarter.” That defensive excellence propelled CHS the rest of the way as they handled affairs in a venue that Knowles traditionally has had his teams play at once in the regular season so they can adjust to the environment of the gymnasium, which is the site for the Northwest 2A District tournament.“They liked the gym and it’s environment,” Knowles told us. “The biggest thing of the night, was that they were just excited to finally play a game. They really like each other and the energy on the court and on the bench was positive from the start. Playing there last night will help us when it’s district time.”

This week they had their home season-opening game with another victory. The SnoValley Sports Journey covered it this way: “Mad Dog” and the ‘D’ lead Red Wolve ladies’ hoops to win,

Good Friday morning. There was basketball last night up at Cedarcrest High School in Duvall, as the Red Wolve girls cruised to a win in their Wesco opener.Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson led all scorers with 18 points for CHS as they handled Marysville-Pilchuck with ease 62-28. With the team showing dominance like they did, the game ended up being one where Cedarcrest got a chance to work on defensive schemes in game situations. “We are experimenting with a couple of presses (defense) and they both worked tonight,” CHS coach Brad Knowles tells us by email. “Plus our transition is so quick, most of our points were scored in fast breaks.”Bella Rose pitched in 14 and Kat Townley chipped in 12 both pacing the Red Wolves, who are at Mountlake Terrace next Wednesday for a 7:15pm tip.

After a slow start to the season with one game per week, next week will pick up steam with three games. Here is to more excitement during her senior year.

The closeout reports from the SnoValley Sports Journal included:

As for the Red Wolves, CHS comes in off a 5-2 loss this past Saturday to Burlington-Edison, who advanced to the district title game blanking Sehome last night and showing perhaps why the Tigers should have been seeded at the top of the table in the district computer rankings. Madelyn Davidson had the two Cedarcrest goals, but we’d look for “Mad Dog”, the senior bound for Idaho, to get most of the Anacortes defensive attention tonight, so this means the Cammarano’s – Melanie and Leah – will need to step up, and also keep an eye on freshman Sadie Schaefer as well tonight.

Cedarcrest started things off needing extra time to beat Anacortes 3-2 in their loser-out Northwest 2A District match. Madelyn Davidson scored two goals including the “golden goal” overtime game-winner as the Red Wolves had to rally from an early deficit to get the win.

erGood Wednesday morning. It was a successful night on the pitch for local high school soccer in more ways than one last night as both Mount Si and Cedarcrest High Schools kept their girls’ soccer seasons alive with playoff wins, and the community stepped up in a big way to support the family of a Red Wolve freshman player battling tremendous adversity following a recent auto accident.Cedarcrest started things off needing extra time to beat Anacortes 3-2 in their loser-out Northwest 2A District match. Madelyn Davidson scored two goals including the “golden goal” overtime game-winner as the Red Wolves had to rally from an early deficit to get the win.Anacortes scored the opening goal despite the Red Wolves controlling play out of the gate in this one. “We dominated the first 10 minutes – passing was on, movement off the ball was right, our touch was good but as with other matches this year, we just didn’t reward ourselves properly,” CHS coach Alex Hickox told us. “This game, I tell ya. We do all the hard work and did not get rewarded for the efforts and the Seahawks score. Head scratcher.”Leave it, though, to the Idaho-bound senior to save the day, though, as she took a feed from Leah Cammarano in stoppage time before halftime and pounded it home to tie things at 1-1 going into the halftime intermission. It made for a different conversation between the team and Hickox than was expected. “The players were definitely relieved about getting the equalizer and we wanted to make sure that we remain steadfast in connecting passes and finding areas out on the flanks. We also needed to be more aggressive at defending. We had 40 minutes to settle this and get past these Seahawks.”

So to the second half. Davidson sent the message right away about Cedarcrest being committed all right, firing a shot towards goal that Melanie Cammarano found and got two chances with – both times missing the goal. But Anacortes knew the Red Wolves were awake, and all of you know when the Red Wolves are awake, they’re a dangerous, explosive bunch. But the Seahawks, once again, figured out a way to overcome all that, and scored what they thought could be the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. But wait, this season can’t end so soon, not after their community came to their freshman teammate’s aid yesterday, right? Well, thanks to one of their budding juniors, CHS found new life.Leah Cammarano had the ball with a couple of minutes to go and found Elisa Pirra, who cruised in on Anacortes’ net and made no mistake, tying this game at 2-2 and sending the CHS crowd into absolute celebration because they had a fighting chance. In the 85th minute, the girls were rewarded. Leah Cammarano, so good at helping her teammates deliver the goods in this one, saved her best for last, finding the “Mad Dog” once more and Davidson did the rest, ripping it home to send the Red Wolves onto a home match with Bellingham tomorrow night and Anacortes home after a very successful season. They finished well above .500 in a very tough Northwest Conference, and also, as we noted yesterday, beat a strong Kingco foe in Sammamish, a perennial power in Kingco that tied for top spot in the conference’s 2A division.

Thanks Rhett Workman for your great coverage of the SnoValley sports.

Now onto High School Basketball try-outs and ECNL Soccer…

Wow… High scoring to close out the regular season…

The regular season closed out this week with a high-scoring game by the girls. Cedarcrest had two players getting 3 scores (aka hat tricks) which were pretty exciting.

Here are some highlights captured in the Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal – Bringing you the best coverage of Snoqualmie Valley sports (wordpress.com).

Madelyn Davidson and Melanie Cammarano both had “hat tricks” (three goals each) and Megan Gray had a pair of assists as the Red Wolves rolled over the Royals 8-0 at Lynnwood High School. The win was especially good for CHS as it helped them avoid having to play in the opening round of the Northwest District tournament tomorrow night.“It was great to see how well we started – it did take a few minutes to get settled in but once we found our feet and our touches, we really knocked the ball around,” CHS coach Alex Hickox told us by email. “We were just focused on the task and the players took it upon themselves to show how well we can play. This will be important to rebuild our confidence as we move into our District Tournament later this week.”Davidson opened the scoring with her first goal eight minutes in, then the Cammarano’s connected, with Melanie scoring off a feed from twin sister Leah, who herself had a goal and two assists, in the 17th. Davidson and Melanie Cammarano connected on a goal in the 27th, then shortly thereafter, the Idaho-bound senior took a feed from Gray and scored her second goal. Leah Cammarano’s goal closed out the half; it came on a penalty kick attempt.Davidson completed the trick with a goal to open the second half. Becca Warner then pocketed a goal and things closed out in the 64th with Melanie completing her trick, scoring her third tally of the game.
CHS girls’ soccer advances to playoffs, while Mount Si’s squad knows its playoff path…..
Davidson also had an asssist as did Neo Ehlen. Both goalies – Natalie McCabe and Kayla Hampton – shared in the “clean sheet” shutout in goal for the Red Wolves, although Hampton survived a scare in the second half when Lynnwood was awarded a penalty kick, which she stopped and the Royals then missed the resulting rebound.
CHS girls’ soccer advances to playoffs, while Mount Si’s squad knows its playoff path…..
SOCCERNorthwest 2A District playoffs, first round (winner to semifinals), Cedarcrest Red Wolves at Burlington-Edison Tigers, Burlington-Edison HS, 1:00 – You know, we just hate this to no end. We really do. Cedarcrest’s girls have had a stellar season in Wesco, finishing 11-4-1, 10-4-1 in league and a Valley Cup win over Mount Si in their lone non-league game, which was good for a fourth-place finish in the conference. They made short work of Lynnwood 8-0 Tuesday with hat tricks by both Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson and Melanie Cammarano moving them up to sixth in the Northwest computer rankings that seed these playoffs. Well, that sixth-place seed earned them a game today against the third-seed team, and sure enough, it’s perennial postseason nemesis B-E, who ended up with the third seed despite them winning the Northwest Conference with a 13-1-1 league record, 14-1-1 overall. Sehome, who played two fewer conference games thanks to some COVID cancels and finished behind B-E in the standings, took a higher RPI berth. The last time these two teams played in postseason, it was in 2019, and Cedarcrest came out on top as an underdog in that game, which we think they are today. That said, they do have the depth and scoring punch that will keep them in this one. There’s the Idaho-bound Davidson, and the Cammarano’s – both Mel and her twin sister Leah made it on the scoresheet in the game Tuesday – but also keep an eye on freshman Sadie Schaefer, who has been making noise this season on the scoresheet herself.
The playoffs are here. Time for some previews and picks!!

More to come on today’s game/loss in our next post but the season isn’t over as this is a double-elimination tournament and the girls can win their way to 3rd place still.
