SEU Fire News: 3-2 Victory over Ave Maria

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern had to rally from a halftime deficit to pick up its sixth win of the season Saturday night.

A pair of goals by Madelyn Davidson helped the Fire come up with a 3-1 win over Ave Maria, scoring three times in the final 39 minutes to move to 6-1-1 in Sun Conference play.

"The key to the second half was just trying to get some movement and get moving for the game overall," said coach Caleb Roberts. "We started a little slow after travel and a quick turnaround, but got our legs under us at halftime and recenter where we wanted to be."

Ave Maria (3-4-4, 1-4-3 SUN) got on the board first in the ninth minute of play and made that tally stand all the way until the 51st minute.

Davidson's first goal of the game came sprinting on a breakaway after a pass from Naira Lopez which was finished to the far post for her third of the season. Davidson scored again in the 77th minute when Lopez fed her the ball at the top of the box from the right wing and snuck it just under the crossbar.

Ariadna Lozano hammered home a one-time feed with her left foot from inside of six yards from Karissa King with 5:57 to play for the game's final score.

Micaela Owen made three saves in the win.

The Fire will be back on the road Wednesday at St. Thomas.

SnoValley Sports Journal News:

This season is turning into a special one for Carnation’s Madelyn Davidson, and last night, the “Mad Dog” made her presence felt for Southeastern University of Florida’s women’s soccer team as she piloted a come-from-behind win.

The sophomore, a Cedarcrest High School grad, scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 77th minute, as Southeastern rallied from a 1-0 hole early and handled in-state rival Ave Maria 3-1. Davidson’s two goals move her to five on the season, as she asserted control of the goal-scoring lead this season amongst Fire players with last night’s performance. Davidson finished having logged 82 minutes, with four shots, three on goal. The game-winning goal was posted to Twitter, and this thing was an absolute beaut.
