LAKELAND, Fla. – Madelyn Davidson powered in a pair of goals to lead Southeastern University past New College of Florida, 2-1, in Sun Conference play on Saturday evening.

Tied at 1-1 with less than six minutes left in the match. Davidson capitalized on a consistent Fire attack on the Mighty Banyans and booted the game-winner at the 84:19 mark. The SEU defense held New College without a shot the rest of the way to seal the victory.

The win was the second straight for the Fire, who improved to 3-5-1 (2-3 SUN) in the first-ever meeting with the Mighty Banyans, who fell to 2-5-1 (0-5-1 SUN).

SEU outshot the home team by a wide margin of 28-6 and 16-6 in shots on goal. Ella Sebree saved five New College shots of the six she faced for the game.

Along with the game-winner, Davidson netted the match's first goal midway through the opening half and had five total shots on goal for the match. Ariadna Lozano placed three balls on the net, while Olivia Thomassy and Rebecca Laface had two apiece.

New College tied the contest right before half with a score coming at 43:24.

The Fire aims to avenge an earlier loss in their next match on Wednesday night, Oct. 12. SEU takes on No. 14 SCAD-Savannah in a 7 p.m. contest.

Sunday Post:

We have a dual headliner this morning involving a pair of young ladies from the lower Valley who dazzled yesterday in their respective sports, helping their teams post successful results. First, we hit the soccer pitch, where Carnation's Madelyn "Mad Dog" Davidson was once again a difference maker for Southeastern University of Florida's ladies. The junior scored both of her team's goals, including the game winner with about five minutes left in regulation, helping SEU sneak past New College of Florida last night 2-1 on the Florida Gulf Coast. Davidson, a junior with the Fire, had a total of seven shots recorded in the game, five on goal, as the Fire needed every last bit of the Cedarcrest HS grad's energy to score that much-needed win as Southeastern has struggled to start the season. WTG Mad Dog!
