CHS alum Benjamin marks a major milestone on the volleyball floor…..and other news on a Thursday

SoccerFire ladies double up local Florida foe: The women’s squad from Florida’s Southeastern University made a short commute from their Lakeland campus over to nearby Babson Park yesterday afternoon and doubled up host Webber International University 4-2. Carnation’s Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson started for SEU, with the senior, like Benjamin above also a Cedarcrest grad, logging 62 minutes recording one shot on goal with no goals scored. Teammate Sarah Irurozki had a three-goal hat trick to power the NAIA Fire, who moved to 2-0 on the season outscoring their first two opponents 11-2 in those two games. Southeastern is next on the road next Wednesday night taking on Truett McConnell University in Georgia.

SVSJ preview: Cedarcrest girls’ soccer aims to keep success going in 2025 following state trip last season

This is a program that as noted does produce college talent – in addition to Sadie Schaefer, Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson is playing her final college season with NAIA Southeastern University in Florida, and as we have told you this week, goalie Kayla Hampton has found instant success this fall at her new college program, Illinois Institute of Technology. Hampton, who graduated from CHS in 2023, transferred to the Chicago university after her former school, San Francisco’s Academy of Art, scrapped their women’s soccer program as part of an overall shutdown of their entire athletic department back in June. Also, at the community college level, defender Masyn Ribail, who graduated back in June, found a spot playing defense at Green River CC down in Auburn. So we’ll be sure to keep an eye periodically on them for you as well.

College scores:Southeastern (FL) women 1, New College of Florida 0: The Fire in a morning road game blanked their in-state rivals down in Sarasota, FL. Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson, she of Carnation and a Cedarcrest HS grad, started and logged 70 minutes for Southeastern, recording three shots, one on goal, with no goals scored.

Valley makes its presence felt in regional XC meet, both high school and college! Also soccer and volleyball to lead off your Sunday…..

SoccerSoutheastern (FL) women 3, Ave Maria 1: The Fire stayed hot to start the season, with a road win over their in-state rivals in central Florida. Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson assisted on one of the Southeastern goals; the young lady from Carnation and 2022 Cedarcrest HS grad pocketed the helper on the goal in the 42nd minute by teammate Olivia Hadad. Davidson started and worked 76 minutes in this one, recording two shots, one on goal, with no goals scored.

Also from college women’s soccer last night:Keiser 4, Southeastern (FL) 1: The Fire suffered their first loss of the year at home last night in Lakeland, FL, against the top team in NAIA in the visitors from south Florida. Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson started for Southeastern and worked 84 minutes with no stats of note reported. She is from Carnation and a Cedarcrest HS grad.

SoccerSoutheastern (FL) women 1, Lynn (FL) 1: Senior Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson, from Carnation and a Cedarcrest HS grad, scored the lone Fire goal in the first half only to see the hosts from South Florida tie it late and end this one in a draw down in Boca Raton, FL, last night. Davidson’s goal was her second on the season and she started and played 67 total minutes for Southeastern with that goal coming on her lone shot on goal in the contest.
