Exciting updates since the last post about SEU Fire

Being away last weekend, I didn’t have time to share news or post updates and so will be looking to help get us all caught up since the last post with news and updates found on the SEU Women’s Soccer News page as well as the Snoqualmie Valley Sports Journal too. 10/10/2023 updates: Women’s Soccer Looking For More Conference Wins

Women's Soccer 10/10/2023 12:30:00 PM Alex Munroe Women's Soccer Looking For More Conference Wins LAKELAND, Fla- The women's soccer team split a pair of Sun Conference games coming into another week of conference play. The Fire are currently 6-3-1 (6-1-1 SUN) on the season. The Fire started last week in Savannah, Ga. with a loss to the undefeated, seventh ranked SCAD Savannah Bees. Naira Lopez and Karissa King had the only goals for the Fire, ultimately falling short 3-2. A few days later, the Fire returned home and secured their second victory this season against Ave Maria University, 3-1. Madelyn Davidson scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season, and Ariadna Lozano scored her third of the season late in the second half. Coming into this week, The Fire will travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. on Wednesday, looking to get back in the win column against the 17th ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats. The Fire and Bobcats tied 0-0 in their last meeting this season. The Bobcats are currently third in the Sun Conference rankings with a 8-1-2 (5-1-2 SUN) record. The defense for the Bobcats has been lights out so far this season, only allowing six goals in 11 games. Isabella Penaranda leads St. Thomas in saves, with 27. Gabrielle Cimino leads the team with four goals on the season. On October 14th, the women's soccer team will host the Warner University Royals, looking to sweep the regular season against Warner with another win. Southeastern defeated Warner 3-0 in September. The Fire have won the last 11 meetings with the Royals, outscoring Warner 42-7 in those games. The Royals will look to Oddny Helgadottir, who is leading the team with seven goals. Moa Bjorestam sits right behind with six goals this season.

10/11/2023 has 2 updates: Women’s Soccer Maintains Ranking in Sixth Coaches’ Poll and Women’s Soccer Defeats No. 17 St. Thomas

Women's Soccer 10/11/2023 11:26:00 AM Donnie Smith Women’s Soccer Maintains Ranking in Sixth Coaches’ Poll KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Southeastern remains ranked 13th in the latest version of the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25, released this afternoon. The Fire check in at 6-3-1 on the season and are 6-1-1 in Sun Conference play. Tonight will be SEU's fifth game against a team ranked in the Top 25 when it travels to No. 17 St. Thomas. Sophomore Madelyn Davidson leads the team in scoring with five goals and 10 total points on the season. Viktoria Lederer and Naira Lopez have nine points each, both with three goals and three assists. The Sun Conference has four teams ranked in the Top 25 with SCAD Savannah now fifth, SEU 13th, St. Thomas 17th, and Keiser 18th.

Next Game: Warner University (Fla.) 10/14/2023 | 1 p.m. RECAP LIVE STATS WATCH LIVE FULL SCHEDULE ROSTER MATCHUP HISTORY MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - An early goal fueled things offensively for Southeastern in a 3-1 win over St. Thomas and advances them to 7-3-1 and 7-1-1 in SUN. In the first half, Katie Carnes got things going early for Southeastern with a goal in the first minute of play, making it her second goal of the season. St. Thomas remained scoreless in the first half with 13 shots in the half alone. Micaela Owen had seven saves in the first half to keep the Bobcats off the board. Naira Lopez sank her fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute of play to advance the lead 2-0 over the Bobcats. The goal was assisted by Ramsey Watkins. Just six minutes later, Madelyn Davidson scored to advance the lead 3-0 in the 60th minute, assisted by Danniane Arboleda. It was Davidson's team-leading sixth goal of the season. St. Thomas (8-1-2, 5-1-2 SUN) got on the board in the second half off a goal by Cristina Blaya San Pedro in the 60th minute of the contest. Owen finished the game with 16 saves. The Fire had ten shots in the contest compared to St. Thomas's 26 shots. Southeastern will take on Warner University at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Naira Lopez kicked things off with her fifth goal of the season in the fourth minute of the game, followed by back to back goals from Katie Carnes (3, 4) less than ten minutes after. Madelyn Davidson decided to join the party, adding on her team leading seventh and eighth goals just one minute apart from each other. Olivia Thomassy and Ariadna Lozano rounded off the first half with their first and fourth goals of the season. After the first half, the Fire added two more goals to the score, thanks to a Rebecca Leface free kick and a goal from Viktoria Lederer. Leface's third of the season and Lederer's fourth of the season helped propel Southeastern to victory. On the defensive side, the Fire have now shut out their seventh Sun Conference opponent this season. Micaela Owen had two saves in the first half, and Madison Songer tallied her first save of the season in the second half. The Fire travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. next on October 18th to play the #18 ranked Keiser Seahawks.

10/17/2023 Updates: Two Match Week for No. 13 Women’s Soccer

Women's Soccer 10/17/2023 6:00:00 PM Samantha Holcomb Two Match Week for No. 13 Women's Soccer LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern women's soccer will have two chances to build on their 8-3-1 and 8-1-1 Sun Conference record this week as they take on No. 18 Keiser University and Webber International. The No. 13 ranked Fire will head to West Palm Beach, Fla. on Wednesday for a 1:30 p.m. contest against the Seahawks and will conclude the week on their home pitch at 7 p.m. against Webber on Saturday. The Fire went 2-0 last week with a 3-1 road win over No. 17 St. Thomas before a dominating 9-0 win over Warner University at home on Saturday. Collectively, Southeastern averages 2.58 goals and 17.2 shots per contest while holding opponents to 1.08 goals per game. Madelyn Davidson recorded another multi-goal game last week to move her season total to a team-leading eight goals. Naira Lopez has posted five goals and three assists while Viktoria Lederer has recorded four goals and four assists. Keeper Micaela Owen holds a .831 save percentage with 64 saves which ranks second in the conference. The Seahawks currently sit fourth in the conference with a 5-3-2 SUN record and are coming off a 1-0-1 week after tying No. 5 SCAD-Savannah 1-1 and beating Florida Memorial 3-0. The Seahawks average 2.5 goals per game and 19.9 shots per game while allowing 1.14 goals and just 7.4 shots per game. Lauren Riley leads the offense with seven goals and three assists while keeper Zara Board has posted a 6.75 save percentage with 27 saves. Earlier this season, the Fire recorded their third historical win over Seahawks with a 2-0 win in Lakeland. The Webber Warriors (3-9-1, 2-7-1 SUN) dropped their most recent contest to No. 17 St. Thomas by a score of 3-0 and currently average less than a goal per game while allowing 2.15 goals per game. Abbie Larocca has posted a team-best five goals while Cameron Laine holds a .740 save percentage with 27 saves. Southeastern moved their historical record to 10-9-2 over the Warriors earlier in the season with a 2-0 win in Babson Park and will look to extend their nine-match winning streak. 10/18/2023 Updates: Women’s Soccer Up a Spot in New NAIA Top 25 Poll and Women’s Soccer Falls in NAIA Top 25 Showdown

Women's Soccer 10/18/2023 11:19:00 AM Samantha Holcomb Women's Soccer Up a Spot in New NAIA Top 25 Poll LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern women's soccer has moved up one spot to No. 12 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Fire hold an 8-3-1 record and 8-1-1 Sun Conference record with their only SUN loss coming against No. 5 SCAD-Savannah. Southeastern averages 2.58 goals and 17.2 shots per game while the defense has completed seven shutouts and held opponents to just 1.08 goals per contest. Madelyn Davidson leads the Fire offense with eight goals while Micaela Owen holds an .831 save percentage with 64 saves. Southeastern will take on No. 17 Keiser University today in West Palm Beach at 1:30 p.m.
Women's Soccer 10/18/2023 3:41:00 PM Samantha Holcomb Women's Soccer Falls in NAIA Top 25 Showdown Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Southeastern women's soccer saw very little offensive momentum today in a 2-1 loss to No. 17 Keiser University to move to 8-4-1 and 8-2-1 in Sun Conference play. The Fire's leading goal scorer, Madelyn Davidson, got the Fire an early lead with a right-footed shot into the upper left corner on an assist by Katie Carnes and Kyndal Glover in the 12th minute. After losing two defenders due to injury, the Fire struggled to hold off the Seahawks for the remainder of the half as the Seahawks would get off 13 shots including the equalizer in the 32nd minute after a deflection off the post. The Seahawks netted the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the 75th minute off the foot of Olivia Pousette, her second of the day. Southeastern was held to just four shots for the entirety of the contest compared to 23 by the Seahawks. Micaela Owen concluded the contest with eight saves after facing 23 shots. The No. 12 ranked Fire will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host Webber International at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.

Soccer: “Mad Dog” delivers again for Southeastern-FL ladies in win As we mentioned here last weekend, this 2023 season is becoming a special one for Carnation’s Madelyn Davidson, and she last night continued to show why she is fast becoming one of the most potent offensive threats in her entire league. The “Mad Dog” pocketed her sixth goal of the season in last night’s 3-1 Southeastern University of Florida women’s soccer win over in-state rival St. Thomas University of Florida, in a battle of nationally-ranked teams in the NAIA, down in Miami. Davidson, a sophomore who graduated from Cedarcrest High School in 2022, is leading the team in scoring – and is tied for fourth overall in the conference – with those six tallies, the sixth which was the Fire’s third goal of the night and pretty much cemented things for Southeastern in the second half. Davidson started and worked just 54 minutes with that goal coming on her lone shot on goal of the game; she recorded three shots total in the contest for the Fire, who moved to 7-3-1 on the season, 7-1-1 overall in the Sun Conference of NAIA. Southeastern is home on Saturday hosting another in-state rival, Warner University.

Soccer Southeastern (FL) women 9, Warner 0: The Fire were on fire in this one, scoring seven first-half goals to cruise to a home win over the visiting in-state foe in Lakeland, FL. Carnation’s Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson scored twice in the span of 72 seconds in that seven-goal first half onslaught, and finished having logged those two goals on three shots in 30 minutes, with she and other starters getting early rest thanks to the very strong start. That rest proved useful for the sophomore, a Cedarcrest HS grad from 2022, as she was honored last night as the university’s athlete of the week prior to Southeastern’s football game with cross-town rival Thomas University. Davidson now has eight goals on the season, and leads the team in that category. Updates from October 19th, 2023: Thursday news….

Soccer: “Mad Dog” tally not enough for Fire women in road loss A goal by Carnation’s Madelyn “Mad Dog” Davidson proved not to be enough for Southeastern University of Florida’s women’s soccer team, as they took a road loss against a solid league opponent yesterday. Opposing Keiser rallied from that early 1-0 hole to score a 2-1 home win in West Palm Beach, FL, over the Fire dropping Southeastern to 8-4-1, 8-2-1 in league play within the NAIA Sun Conference. Davidson, a sophomore and 2022 Cedarcrest High School alum, got the ball from a teammate in the 13th minute and as two defenders were coming close, Davidson was able to flick a shot towards the upper left corner of the Keiser goal, and it hit its target, giving the “Mad Dog” her team-leading ninth goal of the season. The host Seahawks though responded with a late goal in the first half, then won it on a goal with 15 minutes left in regulation time. Davidson finished having played 81 minutes of the game with the goal being on the lone shot on goal she had in the contest, one of only four the team had all game, so a good defensive effort as well by Keiser in this one to limit the offense for Southeastern to just Davidson’s early tally. Southeastern is home on Saturday night for Senior Night against Webber International.
