Thought I would capture all the updates since the last post up to and including the final game of the Sun Conference playoffs.

November 2nd 2024 – Florida Memorial

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire are coming on late in the season. Southeastern University received an early second-half Madelyn Davidson goal and its defense did the rest in a 1-0 shutout over Florida Memorial Saturday afternoon. After controlling the opening half, SEU broke up the scoreless deadlock until Davidson found the back of the net for the ninth time this season only 2:44 into the second half. Fire keeper Ella Sebree turned away the Lions' two late shots on goal at 66:20 and 81:41 and preserved the shutout. With the win, SEU recorded its second shutout of the season to go with a 2-0 final at Warner University on Sept. 25. The Fire also are 2-0-1 over its last three matches and improved to an even 6-6-2 on the year and 4-3-1 in The Sun Conference. Florida Memorial is now 8-5-2 and 4-4-2 in the Conference. SEU out-shot the visitors by a 14-5 margin over the match and 8-3 with boots onto the net. Sebree had not faced a shot on goal until she saved the two Lions attempts in the final 23:40 of the match. After the Davidson goal, both Abby Ripple (48:04) and Katie Carnes (57:14) both tried to make it a two-goal game but the attempts were saved. SEU moves onto The Sun Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday as the No. 3 seed and will get a rematch with No. 6 Florida Memorial. Onto women's soccer, and Carnation's "Mad Dog" made the difference yesterday. Madelyn Davidson scored the game's lone goal for Southeastern University's squad in a 1-0 win that closed out the regular season at home over Florida Memorial University in central Florida. The goal, which came in the 48th minute, was the ninth of the season for the CHS alum and clinched a rematch with FMU Thursday, again at home on SEU turf in Lakeland, outside of Tampa. Davidson's former Cedarcrest teammate Sidra Griffin also saw action in two games this past week for Linfield University's team, with no stats of note to report. Griffin is from Duvall.

November7, 2024 – Florida Memorial

LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern's Gaia Iacuzzi and Olivia Thomassey teamed up for three goals over a six-minute period and pushed the Fire past Florida Memorial, 4-1, in The Sun Conference women's soccer quarterfinal. Getting the night started, Madelyn Davidson made the first shot of the game count as she found the back of the Florida Memorial net for a 1-0 home score at 5:47. Davidson added another shot on goal (19:20), while Makayla Peddycoart tried two balls on net (22:36 and 38:39) and Ariadna Lozano one more (41:05) the rest of the opening half. Sebree recorded her first save against the Lions offense at 35:34. Florida Memorial tied the match just over 15 minutes into the second stanza at 60:18. Tied at 1-1, the SEU defense blocked a Florida Memorial shot and reversed the field where Iacuzzi booted what would be the game-winning goal only 33 seconds later at 72:24. The Fire pressure continued as Thomassey connected on a pair of goals of her own on the next two SEU shot attempts with assists from Rebecca Laface and Amelia Hammond. The Fire controlled the action from there to secure the victory. For the second time in five days, the Fire posted a win against the Lions (8-7-2). The two met last weekend where SEU took away a 1-0 Saturday morning victory. The Fire out-shot FMU 25-10 on the night. Keeper Ella Sebree turned away three of the four shots on goal she faced in net. The Fire return to action on Monday, when they head to West Palm Beach to battle with Keiser University in The Sun Conference semi-finals. Kick off is at 1:30 p.m..

Soccer notes: it was Senior Day yesterday for Cedarcrest alum Sidra Griffin as Linfield University's ladies played their final home match of the season in Oregon; Griffin, from Duvall, worked the full 90 with no stats reported in a 1-1 Wildcat tie with Willamette. Also, fellow Red Wolve alum Madelyn Davidson scored her 10th goal of the season for Southeastern U. of Florida's ladies in a 4-1 win this past Thursday at home in the Sun Conference playoffs over Florida Memorial. November 11, 2024 – Semi-Finals against Kaiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Fire took on the nation's best all year and Monday afternoon was no different. In the Sun Conference semifinals, Southeastern University fell to top seed and NAIA No. 2 Keiser University, 4-0, in women's soccer. Fire keeper Ella Sebree and the defense held off the Seahawks initially, as Sebree recorded six saves, but Keiser found the back of the net at 22:30 to take a 1-0 lead. Olivia Thomassey fired SEU's first shot on goal at 29:51 and only 30 seconds later Keiser added a second goal, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Sebree finished the match with 12 saves. Rebecca Laface led the Fire offense with four shots of the team's seven, with one on goal. SEU had their best offensive surge after the 62 nd minute where Lozano put a shot on net (62:44), Davidson missed her attempt high (63:28), and Laface shot one wide at 70:21. The Fire faced eight ranked opponents in their 16 total matches and end the season with a 7-7-2 record. Sun Conference All-Academic Honors

Madelyn and 12 other girls from the team got this honor

Football 10/31/2024 10:58:00 PM Ethan Sullivan Fire Athletics Earns 41 Sun Conference All-Academic Honors The 2024 Sun Conference Fall All-Academic Awards were announced today, with Southeastern having 40 student-athletes named as honorees. "There is so much we ask of our student-athletes, and it's gratifying to know that in the midst of preparation for their sport, that academic excellence is just as important to them," said Athletics Director, Drew Watson. "I know I speak for the fall coaches when I say that we are so proud of those who were honored today," To qualify for this honor, the athlete must have been enrolled in two or more semesters and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Women's soccer boasted the most out of all fall sports, with 13 total. Forwards Katie Carnes, Peyton Fitzherbert, alongside goalie Madison Songer were named, as were midfielders, Madelyn Davidson, Ariadna Lozano, Rebecca Laface. From the defensive side of the pitch, Elizabeth Unzueta, Grace Banker, Olivia Thomassy, Kaylee Couey, Abigail Ripple, Alivia Knapp, and Gabriella Palanti earned honors. From cross country there were eight student-athletes named on the women's side and four from the men's team. Men's Cross Country saw Luke Callery, Joshua Shields, Nathan Evans, and Tyler Moody honored. From the women's team, Grace Feder, Natalie Rohm, Jillian Blaser, Kaitlyn Vorkapich, Sophie Robinson, Marlee Irvin, Gracie McGee, and Sarah Foreman were named. Volleyball had six student-athletes with All-SUN academic honors. Alexandra Postlethwaite, Alexandra Marshall, Cambry Pope, Chapel Cunningham, Kennedy Jones, and Ava Connors. Men's soccer and football had four and five respectively. Edward Alderson, Luca Baldestein, William Durrance, Nico Munari, and Ben Dow were named from Men's Soccer. Women's Soccer 11/6/2024 11:00:00 AM Mary vonKronenberger 2024 SUN Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced Story LinksTAMPA, Fla. - The 2024 All-Sun Conference Women's Soccer Teams were announced on Wednesday morning as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. Regular Season Co-Champion Keiser led the All-Conference selections with six First Team honorees and four athletes on the Second Team, showcasing their depth in both offensive and defensive positions. Regular Season Co-Champion SCAD Savannah followed closely with a strong showing, claiming seven First Team spots and representation across forward, midfield, defense, and goalkeeping. The remaining awards were distributed among several schools, including Florida Memorial and St. Thomas, each contributing valuable players across both teams. Ave Maria and Southeastern rounded out the honorees with solid Second Team performances. Ten representatives are repeat winners from last year (Sydney Chura, Gabrielle Cimino, Abigail Siddall, Ida Akesson, Ines Sommer, Georgia Little, Madelyn Davidson, Katie Carnes, Rachel Dalton, and Olivia Pousette).
